About Us

  • Bend Area Habitat for Humanity is a charitable, not-for-profit organization serving the community and families of the Bend area of Deschutes County, in the State of Oregon.
  • Founded in 1989, the non-profit has built 67 affordable homes in the community of Bend, and is in the process of constructing nine more over the next year.
  • To date, our organization has served 111 adults and 208 children.
  • Currently 68 adults and 148 children reside in Bend Area Habitat safe, decent, affordable housing.
  • Bend Area Habitat for Humanity builds homes through the generous labor and energy from a diverse group of volunteers.
  • Thanks to the 300+ volunteers and numerous donors, Bend Area Habitat is supported through cash donations and building materials. The homes, once finished, are sold to hard working, low-income families for approximately $110,000.
  • At the end of the 3rd quarter in 2007, the median home price in Bend is $ 349,000, while the median income for a family of four is $ 58,700. HUD standards dictate that a family should spend no MORE than 30% of their income on home / utility expenses.
  • This means that a family of four can afford a home for roughly $ 170,000.

  • BAHFH holds the 20-year interest-free mortgages, so that the cost to homeowners is generally less than the rent they paid in their former inadequate rental housing.
