In-kind services (Business and community support)
As a corporation, if you have resources or services that you can donate to lessen Bend
Habitat’s project expenses (e.g. excavation, plumbing), the IRS may allow a tax deduction
for all or part of the cost. We welcome community business support. If you would like to
donate construction supplies, materials or labor, you can contact Ken Ellenberg,
Marketing/Development Coordinator (541.385.5387x229), or you can call Glen McClean,
Construction Manager (541.815.7999).
Real estate
Gifts of appreciated real estate to Bend Habitat are like gifts of appreciated stock. If
you have owned the property for more than one year, the IRS allows you to deduct the
contribution as a charitable donation at fair-market value and avoid capital gains taxes.
Stocks & Bonds
You may donate stocks or bonds to Bend Habitat. If you have owned an appreciated security
for more than one year, you may deduct the full fair-market value as a charitable
contribution, and avoid capital gains taxes.
Insurance
The contribution of life insurance is a unique gift. As owner of a policy, you may assign
ownership of the policy to Bend Area Habitat for Humanity, or you may name Bend Habitat as
a beneficiary of the policy. The charitable contribution tax benefit to you is the cost
basis of the policy. Ongoing premiums on a gifted life insurance policy also qualify for
tax deductions.
Personal Property
You may also donate tangible personal property to Bend Area Habitat for Humanity. For
example, gifts may include antiques, rare books, artwork, vehicles, boats, or RVs.
Depending on the nature of the gift, all or part of the value of the charitable
contribution may be considered for a tax deduction.
Bequest awareness or planned giving opportunities are also another way to
financially contribute to Bend Area Habitat for Humanity. Please consult your attorney or
accountant to find out more about the various ways to support affordable housing in
perpetuity.
If you have ANY questions about the above donation methods, please contact the
Marketing/Development Coordinator, Ken Ellenberg @ 541-395.5387 extension 229 or email
kellenberg@bendhabitat.org.
