Most home bakers know that pizza stones are ideal for obtaining a rustic hearth-style crust on breads and dough. There are many commercially manufactured pizza stones available on the market, however, the rustic baker did not start at the kitchen supply store, and neither must you. Sometimes you can find these at the Restore for a fraction of the cost of commercial baking tiles!

This past weekend was a busy one. On Saturday, June 27 we dedicated our 79th home to Krista Stewart and her two daughters at our Blakely site. Then Deschutes Brewery wanted to honor Bend Habitat by donating a portion of its 21st Anniversary party proceeds to us. So, I spent the day at Deschutes Brewery downtown, outside, under a tent listening to live music by great local bands and talking to people about Habitat. It was so great to see so many people coming out to enjoy a beautiful day, music, food and delicious beer. Thanks Deschutes Brewery!

Also, this past weekend was Pacific Crest in Sunriver. Bend Habitat benefits from having volunteers help at the race and then a donation will be made to Habitat. I spent Sunday, June 28 at the finish line handing out water to all of the 5k and 10k finishers. And then I got to hand out towels and direct the Triathlon and Duathlon finishers to a cold shower as the temperatures rose. It was a blast. I was sunburned and tired but felt good.

I appreciate how our community comes together and supports nonprofits. We can't continue serving families, building houses, without the support of our local community. So, thank you Central Oregon for your continued support of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity!
