“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

There are so many people with hearts filled with service and good but few of them are as eloquent as the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King called loudly for equal rights and an end to discrimination.  He spoke of physical and mental ill treatment due to a difference in skin color.  But what Dr. King truly spoke of was beyond color.  What Dr. King gave his life for was human dignity, mutual respect and honor.  Even today, Dr. King’s message rings loudly through the country’s capitol as if he still stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  His words reverberate through the halls of schools, whisper around business water coolers, echo through stadiums and arenas.  His words are quoted and paraphrased over and over again because their meaning is worth repeating and worth sharing.

Each year, the Corporation for National and Community Service honors Dr. King's legacy by asking Americans to make the King Holiday a national day of service.  In his short life he gave us respect, honor and a beautiful human spirit.  Won’t you thank him by giving back to your community?  Bend Area Habitat has organized a service project at our construction site on Monday, January 18th, as part of this national effort to honor Dr. King.  If you would like to join us, contact Adina (aeden@bendhabitat.org) or sign up on our website.
