It's that time of year again, the kick-off for the Women Build. A time where women are encouraged to help us continue building affordable houses for families in Bend. We encourage women to build, volunteer and support us every day but the Women Build is unique. It's fun. It's exciting and starting this Saturday, May 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 63140 Lancaster St. we will be lead by women crew leaders as we frame the first story. We will be encouraged, supported, cheered on and taught how to build by women. And then every Saturday until the home is completed, women will be lead by women. Men are welcome to join us as well.
And if you haven't heard...my daughter, Carly and I will have the opportunity to purchase this year's Women Build! I've been working for Bend Area Habitat for Humanity for more than 2 years and applied for the program in January 2009. It's been a very big and busy year for me as I've been a mom to Carly, working full time and volunteering almost every Saturday, some Sundays and at our Restore to fulfill my required 400 hours of sweat equity. But I've made it and I can't tell you how excited we are to see and be a part of our home building process. I'm excited to work alongside all of you.
I suggest you wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses and layers so that IF it gets warm, you will be prepared. Habitat has all of the tools you will need unless you have a favorite hammer or tool belt.
You have beautiful hearts of service and I can't wait to meet all of you.
