Most home bakers know that pizza stones are ideal for obtaining a rustic hearth-style crust on breads and dough. There are many commercially manufactured pizza stones available on the market, however, the rustic baker did not start at the kitchen supply store, and neither must you. Sometimes you can find these at the Restore for a fraction of the cost of commercial baking tiles!

Bend Area Habitat for Humanity has led four Global Village trips over the last two years.  The Global Village experience offers the volunteer the unique opportunity to reach well beyond their own community to make a difference. The amazing experience does more than resonate in lives of the villagers, though. It lives in the heart of the volunteer forever.

Judy Ball, a recent Global Village team member says, "The trip was amazing. It's really a feel-good experience. You go because you want to help somebody else but you actually end up helping yourself. The warm fuzzies last for months and months."  The Global Village program offers the best of both worlds- it is safe and well-planned but also offers a deep and personal connection to the culture in only a short amount of time.

BAHfH's fifth GV trip will take place in the village of Lago Yajoa, a town near Honduras’ largest and most beautiful lake. The trip will take place from August 7th to the 15th, 2010 and will include five days of building and two days of rest and relaxation. The trip will include beautiful nature excursions, meaningful cultural exchange programs and construction with the recipient family and time relaxing on the beach. The trip will cost around $1300 per person which includes everything but airfare.

The team leader for the trip will be Adina Eden, Bend Habitat’s Youth Program Coordinator, who led a Global Village trip in March and who has previous experience in Central and South America. Adina will be co-leading with another Bend Habitat staff member. She is working hard to recruit team members for this trip and is hoping to create a team of eight to twelve people of all ages and backgrounds. Adina is very excited about creating special memories and experiencing what she knows will be a meaningful adventure.

Adina can be reached at 541-385-5387 xt 234 or aeden@bendhabitat.org.  Contact her today for more information.
