Kim Corpus and her family have been in their Habitat home since April of 2009. Before being accepted into the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership program Kim lived in a rental house with her four children, but it became too expensive to afford renting their home as well as the space that Kim rents for her business. Kim says that at times it can still get a little difficult to make all of the necessary payments for her home and business, but the lower payments on the no-interest mortgage are nice and Kim says she was able to receive a tax refund even though she was not able to write off her home on her taxes. Although there is still the occasional nervous-feeling, Kim says that for the most part it has been a good, nice feeling having her own home.

Kim’s favorite aspects of homeownership are that she can change things if she wants to and that someday she could own it out-right.

Kim completed her sweat equity while working in the ReStore and on various construction sites, but even after all of her required hours were completed she continued to help on the work-site and build her own home. She also volunteered her skills as a hairdresser to support the Women's Council of Realtors, Step Into Spring Fashion Show, a fundraiser benefitting Habitat. Kim is very thankful that she was able to purchase a Habitat home, and she is also very thankful for the volunteers that helped to build her home. Kim says that working with the volunteers on her own home was very humbling and touching to know that there are people who still care and will come together as a community to help with another family’s success.
