Youth United Build

Once again this year, Bend Habitat has made a commitment to the families and youth of the area by accepting the generous donation of time and enegry from Sisters High School.  The Industrial Arts classes of Tony Cosby  will be building panelized walls a the High School and then transporting them to Bend for assembly on site   This head start by the students will be compounded by the efforts of many other youth groups.

One of these youth groups, Deschutes County Juvenile Justice Program, has been a long time supporter of Bend Area Habitat.  We were so pleased to have them involved in this project.  This program is designed to specifically support these youth by reinforcing the principles of a Balanced and Restorative Justice process. Read about the unique mentor program Habitat and Restorative Justice has developed.

In a unique show of support, Bend Theatre for Young People performed a Christmas play and donated the benefits to BAHfH Youth United Build.  Thank you to all the hard work that went into the presentation of the original play.

Other youth groups join our ranks each year through our youth programs.  Seven Peaks School is actively involved in with BAHfH.  We welcome Kindergarten through middle school aged children through specialized volunteer programs on our construction site and at our ReStore.  The children have painted trim and birdhouses, learned how to read blueprints and helped decorate BAHfH's float for the Christmas Parade.

If you would like to get your school, youth group or church youth ministry involved, please feel free to call our offices or contact Sara Mishalanie, Habitat's youth specialist.
