The Blitz Build
Race to the Roof and Blitz Build objectives
Bend Area Habitat for Humanity strives to build ten homes per year. In order to achieve this goal, we partner with local builders as part of Habitat International's Home Builders Blitz. Based on the fantastic successes from the 2007 and 2008 Blitzes (see below), we continued the annual Blitz Build event in the Bend community. Race to the Roof specifically seeks to increase our construction, fundraising, and community awareness capacity. This year's build was underwritten by the Hayden Giving Fund. Their gift of $75,000 ensured that the families awaiting homes will be able to purchase them in the shortest amount of time.
As well as accelerating the construction schedule, our aim is for the Race to the Roof to fund both homes. Our builders recruit material donations as well as skilled trade volunteers. They collaborate with us to petition for their members to volunteer labor and donate materials. In addition, we encourage donations to support either builder to win the Race to the Roof. 2009 Blitz Build
In September, the wonderful tradition of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity's Race to the Roof was carried on by two local Central Oregon Builders. This year the Hayden Giving Fund is sponsored the build and Simplicity by Hayden Homes and Adiar Homes were our two featured builders.

2008 Blitz Build
In 2008 SolAire Homes raced Dunn Development and Construction in the building of two homes at our Blakely site. In a cold yet productive day, the teams actually finished within 2 minutes of each other, officially declaring a tie for the race.
2007 Blitz Build
In September 2007, Pahlisch Homes, Inc and Sage Builders, LLC came together to engage in a friendly competition! The goal was to finish the exteriors of two homes, sub-floor to roof. Starting at 7:30 am, the two teams worked fast and furiously. The Pahlisch team, led by Lane Lehrke, finished at 1:10 pm and Sage Builders, led by Mark Huffman, came in close behind finishing at 2:10 pm! Two homes, in one day, framed, sided, trussed, roofed plus windows!
