Free Removal of Construction Materials & Fixtures for Homeowners and Contractors

About the Service

Prior to a remodel or demolition of a home or business, items that are viable for resale are carefully removed. In contrast with full-scale deconstruction, our organization "cherry picks” or "soft strips” items, rather than systematically taking buildings apart. No items affecting the structural integrity of a building are removed.
We remove a wide variety of materials based on their value for resale.
Commonly "picked” items include:

Cabinets
Decks
Fencing
Pre-hung doors
Vinyl windows
Carpet & floating flooring
Plumbing and lighting fixtures

Homeowner Benefits:

  • Keep usable materials in use - and out of the landfill

Contractor Benefits:

  • Make your bids go farther by eliminating tear-out time and cost
  • Provide clients with a tax deduction and project savings
  • Gain client confidence as a community-minded contractor
  • Enhance your brand by partnering with Habitat for Humanity
  • Reduce your construction waste for the benefit of the community

Is Habitat licensed to work on my home or buiness?

Yes.  Bend Area Habitat for Humanity is fully bonded and licensed under CCB#83516.

Why is the service free?

We can offer this service free of charge because we only remove items that can be sold for a worthwhile profit at our ReStore.  Our crew is made up of volunteers, led by our Reclamation Coordinator.

How do I get started?

Contact our Reclamation Coordinator as soon as possible before remodeling or demolition begins.  You will set up a time for our Coordinator or volunteer to "scout" your project.  If the project is viable, paperwork will be completed listing items to be removed.  A date is set and volunteers are recruited for the project.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

As of August, 2010, in partnership with the Homeowner's Association of the Inn of the 7th Mountain Resort and Sunwest Builders, the ReStore's team has successfully salvaged vintage cedar siding from several of the ten resort condominiums. With the help of labor through Flex Force Staffing, Experience works, COIC, Shepherd's House, Bethlehem Inn, and ReStore's dedicated volunteers, we hope to continue to partner with Sunwest to save the cedar from the dumpster and turn it into valuable funding for the organization. The cedar has been pre-sold to a California distributor for use as interior paneling in high-end retail establishments. All told, the project should reclaim approximately 187,000 linear feet of material - over 125 tons of waste that will not go to the landfill - and bring Bend Area Habitat nearly $30,000 in net revenue.
