Construction Faith House FAQ
Bend Habitat has long been supported by Bend’s faith community, and specifically, by individual members within some of the many congregations. In 2000, Trinity Episcopal, First Lutheran, and First United Methodist together supported a Habitat home build, called the Grace House.
Since 2004, we have been making contacts in many of Bend’s 70 + churches and other faith groups.
In 2005 – thanks to the support of Westside Church and John Flannery, owner of Green Energy Transport, Habitat tours were available for interested parties, enabling Bend Area Habitat to broaden their reach in the community. Thanks to the tours and increased support in the community – we now have connections with 30 congregations. In each of these 30, we have one or more liaisons who receive information about Habitat’s news and needs to convey to their respective congregations.
In late 2005, having made such valuable connections, we decided to build another house supported by Bend’s faith community. We called it the Faith House and received support at various levels from the following churches and other faith groups:
- All People’s United Church of Christ
- The Baha’i Faith
- Church of the Nazarene
- Discovery Christian Church
- First Baptist Church
- First Presbyterian Church
- First United Methodist Church
- Interfaith Ministries of Central Oregon
- The Jewish Community
- New Hope Church
- St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
- Seventh Day Adventist Church
- Trinity Episcopal
- Trinity Lutheran
- Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
To date – we have a strong committee formed – with representatives from:
- Bend Calvary Chapel
- Christian Scientist Church
- Church of the Nazarene
- Eastmont Church
- First Lutheran
- First Presbyterian
- First United Methodist
- Nativity Lutheran
- New Hope Church
- St. Francis of Assisi
