Most home bakers know that pizza stones are ideal for obtaining a rustic hearth-style crust on breads and dough. There are many commercially manufactured pizza stones available on the market, however, the rustic baker did not start at the kitchen supply store, and neither must you. Sometimes you can find these at the Restore for a fraction of the cost of commercial baking tiles!

Construction Faith House FAQ

Bend Habitat has long been supported by Bend’s faith community, and specifically, by individual members within some of the many congregations. In 2000, Trinity Episcopal, First Lutheran, and First United Methodist together supported a Habitat home build, called the Grace House.

Since 2004, we have been making contacts in many of Bend’s 70 + churches and other faith groups.

In 2005 – thanks to the support of Westside Church and John Flannery, owner of Green Energy Transport, Habitat tours were available for interested parties, enabling Bend Area Habitat to broaden their reach in the community. Thanks to the tours and increased support in the community – we now have connections with 30 congregations. In each of these 30, we have one or more liaisons who receive information about Habitat’s news and needs to convey to their respective congregations.

In late 2005, having made such valuable connections, we decided to build another house supported by Bend’s faith community. We called it the Faith House and received support at various levels from the following churches and other faith groups:

  1. All People’s United Church of Christ
  2. The Baha’i Faith
  3. Church of the Nazarene
  4. Discovery Christian Church
  5. First Baptist Church
  6. First Presbyterian Church
  7. First United Methodist Church
  8. Interfaith Ministries of Central Oregon
  9. The Jewish Community
  10. New Hope Church
  11. St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
  12. Seventh Day Adventist Church
  13. Trinity Episcopal
  14. Trinity Lutheran
  15. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
Because of the successful commitment and level of community participation on that Faith House – we now strive to build an annual Faith House.

Faith House 2006, on Silver Lake Blvd, is home to a mother and her son.
Faith House 2007, houses a family of five, on Daggett Lane.
Groundbreaking for Faith House 2008 on Blakely S. took place in August.

To date – we have a strong committee formed – with representatives from:

  1. Bend Calvary Chapel
  2. Christian Scientist Church
  3. Church of the Nazarene
  4. Eastmont Church
  5. First Lutheran
  6. First Presbyterian
  7. First United Methodist
  8. Nativity Lutheran
  9. New Hope Church
  10. St. Francis of Assisi
  11. Trinity Episcopal
  12. Trinity Lutheran
  13. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
