Most home bakers know that pizza stones are ideal for obtaining a rustic hearth-style crust on breads and dough. There are many commercially manufactured pizza stones available on the market, however, the rustic baker did not start at the kitchen supply store, and neither must you. Sometimes you can find these at the Restore for a fraction of the cost of commercial baking tiles!

Crook County Habitat for Humanity

VIP Build

Crook County Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with prospective homeowners who are selected on the basis of need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner through contributing a specified number of hours of sweat equity toward the construction of their home. Homes are sold to families at no-profit with a zero-interest mortgage.  Mortgage payments are recycled to build additional homes with families in need.  Habitat for Humanity is founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child deserves a place to live in dignity, security, and safety.

The VIP Build (Volunteers in Prineville) is being built at 449 SE 5th Street in Prineville and will be the home of Gina Simmons and her four children. When Gina found out that she was chosen to be a partner family with Habitat for Humanity she felt very fortunate. The opportunity to have her own home has been a dream come true.

Crook County Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to assist Gina in the construction of this home.  If you are interested in being a volunteer please visit www.bendhabitat.org/volunteer  to find more information.

In addition, Crook County Habitat for Humanity is asking for help from the Prineville community in finding sub-contractors and suppliers to assist with finishing the homes.  We are hoping sub-contractors will see the value in this project and donate their time and materials in an effort to help house two low-income families.  We need sub-contractor help in the following areas:

Site Prep       Foundations       Plumbing      Electrical              Insulation              Drywall         Painting          Cabinets       Countertops             Interior Doors             Floor Coverings             Trim and Baseboards

In return for your contribution Habitat would like to offer promotional opportunities that would include press releases to all the major media outlets; high visibility signage at the site; acknowledgment in our quarterly newsletter; and recognition on our website.

During our current economic downturn, an increasing number of our community members are struggling to find adequate housing. This VIP Build project will provide an immediate, positive, impact for a low-income family.  If you have further questions please contact:
