The Eddington Family
Kristal is a full time employee for a local HOA management and Bookkeeping company. She has been attending college and slowly working toward her degree. Her hobbies include hiking, camping, biking, travel, music, and she is constantly practicing good physical and mental health. She was born in Southern California but had her first birthday in Montana, near Flathead Lake, where her Father’s family lives. During her childhood years she has lived in various towns in Montana, Wyoming and Oregon. Kristal attended high school here in Central Oregon where her Mother’s family lives. After graduating she spent a few years in California’s North Bay Area.
Kristal is a single mom of a very responsible and independent 12 year old son, Ryan. Ryan is a very caring and social boy who enjoys playing video games, basketball, lacrosse, snowboarding, mountain biking, and most of all football. After he graduates High School, he dreams of attending U of O and playing ball for the Oregon Ducks.
Kristal has participated in many volunteer positions over the years. She feels that every time she is able to offer her time or skills to assist or benefit others, it provides her with so much personal growth. Kristal involves Ryan as often as possible in hopes to teach him this important life lesson. They often sing lyrics to one of their favorite songs together; "To change the world, start with one step. However small, the first step is hardest of all.” "To give is to live. If you give, then you can begin to live”
Over the last 10 years Kristal and Ryan have lived in many great places in Oregon. They had an opportunity to attend school and live in Sydney Australia during 2005. More recently, after spending 3 years in the Portland area, Kristal and Ryan moved back to Bend and have been living here for 2 ½ years. Kristal has lived in Bend off and on since 1980 when her parents divorced. Both Ryan and she consider this to be home. There are many things they love about Central Oregon such as being so close to their family, the climate and seasons, access to nature and year round recreation, and Bend’s small town feel with little city accommodations. These are the reason they have decided this is the place to build a house and make Bend their permanent home.
Kristal’s first involvement with Habitat for Humanity was when she was recommending the program to a friend and attended an orientation. After learning more details about the program, she realized that this would be a great opportunity for herself and Ryan. Kristal has always had the goal of becoming a homeowner and working with Habitat for Humanity has made the goal obtainable and truly a dream come true. She believes that becoming a homeowner will help to provide a sense of long-term stability and security for both herself and Ryan. While at the same time, help to build some equity and provide something she can pass onto Ryan later in life.
Kristal and Ryan can hardly wait to begin construction on their new home in 2011. They would like to give a big Thank You to all those at BAHFH for this amazing opportunity and especially to all the volunteers that make the program such a huge success.
