The Loverin Family

Krystal Loverin first came to Bend Area Habitat for Humanity looking to volunteer. She had heard about Habitats work in other countries, and wanted to get involved locally as a way to prepare herself for eventually going on one of our Global Village trips. While she was here, people encouraged her to apply to purchase a Habitat home herself. After going through all the forms and paperwork, Krystal was thrilled to learn that she was selected!

When she was younger, Krystal moved around a lot, sometimes as often as every six months. Several times they had to improvise shelter in tents or cars. Krystal said that all this moving has made her versatile and adaptable; I know I can survive in any situation. But it also left me really wanting a sense of stability and security for my girls. One place they know they can call home.
Krystal is the mother of three wonderful daughters: AshLee (15), Erika (6), and Mia (9 months). When asked what she hoped to gain for the Habitat experience, Krystal told me I want my daughters to grow up wanting to give back to their communities, their country, internationally. I hope that they can see and take after all the volunteers at Habitat.

As a veteran who has served in the current conflict in Iraq, Krystal is no stranger to service. At Habitat, weve quickly been able to see the initiative and passion she brings to our community. To all of the volunteers and donors who are working with Habitat for Humanity, Krystal would like to say: You epitomize what community is all about and what America is all about. Giving back and helping one another. The hand up, the hand that is creating this opportunity for my family to own a home: that is your hand! I hope to one day be like the regular volunteers, who are continually giving back and being a part of this great opportunity.
