Our Board of Directors is a committed group of people from the community. Each member brings with them their own unique set of skills and knowledge. The BoD is a keystone in the continued succes of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity. The Board of Directors meets the last Wednesday of each month.
Bill Kuhn, VP & Central Oregon Regional Credit Administrator with South Valley Bank & Trust. Bill brings a diverse background of volunteer service to the organization. Bill has served on the Deschutes County Advisory Council, Deschutes County Search & Rescure Board. Has been involved with the Oregon 4-H Foundation, Rocky Mtn. Elk Foundations, and United Way. Bill is also a member of the Bend Area Habitat for Humanity Finance Committee. On his involvement with BAHfH, Bill states that he is looking forward to joining such a wonderful organization that has a strong commitment to providing homeownership opportunities to deserving families.
Richard Berg is a financial advisor with his wife, Selina Witt. Richard serves on the Vima Lupwa board of directors and is the chairperson of Nativity Lutheran Church. Richard has been involved with Habitat for Humanity in Phoenix, Arizona, Sisters and Bend. He was honored to be included in the October, 2007 Jimmy Carter Build in Los Angeles. In addition to Habitat, Richard assists with various senior and homeless issues in the greater Central Oregon area.
During his working career, Mike worked for a number of electric and water utilities. Mike was an accountant and spent the last 24 of his 36 years working for Snohomish County Public Utility District headquartered in Everett, Washington, serving as their Auditor/Controller at the end of his career. Mike has volunteered for many non-profit organizations including United Way, youth basketball, soccer and baseball, various churches and Volunteers of America, Western Washington where he served for 15 years as finance chairman, vice president and president of the Board
Jo Conover is an expert in sustainable design and construction project management, a LEED Accredited Professional and co-founder and former Chair of the Northern California Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. She has an MBA degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Bree Beal has been a part of the Central Oregon community for more than 20 years. She currently works as an escrow officer at Western Title & Escrow Company. Over the last two years she has had the privilege of getting to know BAHfH as their escrow officer and as a volunteer.
Green Building Consultant with Earth Advantage, Inc., Bruce has been involved in energy efficient construction since 1983. He has worked for the Oregon State University Extension Service, Eugene Water & Electric Board and Iris Communications, Inc. In 1996, he established Oikos.com one of the world's first websites dedicated to green building. Bruce has served in serveral volunteer organizations including the Building Green Council of Central Oregon and the Lorane Rural Fire Protection District.
Carole rejoined the Board after a three year break during which she continued her work building stronger support for Bend Habitat from Bend's churches and other faith groups. Carole, herself, belongs to First Presbyterian that was in on the start of Bend Habitat in 1989.
Duncan is a life long Oregon resident, having moved to Bend from Portland five years ago. His profession as a land use planner has given him over 35 years of experience in projects ranging from the environment to affordable housing.
Geoff has been a 'regular' on the construction crew and a member of the Finance committee for over a year. By joining our board, Geoff shares his rich background with us. He worked for The Gillette Company for 25 years in varied executive management positions ranging from finance, operations, IT and strategic planning. He's a member in good standing of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and an associate member of International Chartered Accountants and U.S. CPA Associations.
Gerald attended Mesa State College where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business. He worked in human resources for 14 years in Salem, Oregon. In 2002 he moved to Central Oregon to work in the transporting industry in human resources. Gerald has been married for 15 years to Sonia and they have two children, Walker and Ryanne. He's been involved in Habitat for Humanity in Crook County for almost 3 years, serving on the steering committee, presenting orientations, family selection committee, working on the builds and family support.
ML offers extensive training in architecture and sustainable building. ML operates a sustainable consulting business with experience in LEED projects and she coordinates the Sustainable Building Advisor Course at COCC. ML has been actively involved in the design and build process of BAHfH?s homes since 2005. She helped write the affiliate?s Green Building Guidelines. ML realized that after her direct and extended involvement with our affiliate the next natural involvement was to join the board of directors.
Retired physician in Prineville, Ron is a member of the Bend Area Habitat for Humanity board and the ReStore Advisory Committee. He enjoys restoring old homes and felt Habitat and ReStore were a good fit for him. Ron loves building and has always wanted to volunteer with Habitat. Ron is married to Seanna Ash, a lawyer, and they have one child still living at home.
Sean has been a member of the Family Selection Committee. As a board member, Sean plans to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing in our community. He says his involvement with the Family Selection Committee has piqued his interest and now he'd like to offer his business management and speaking skills as a tool for the board of directors
Sylvia moved to Bend seven years ago from Davis, CA, after retiring from a rather long career in the California State Legislature. Bend Area Habitat for Humanity has presented a rewarding opportunity for volunteer service and Sylvia appreciates the very good work of the organization.
