Bend Area Habitat For Humanity ReStore is a dynamic place that offers a variety of ways for people to donate their time and get involved as a volunteer. If you think you would be interested in volunteering call 385-5387 x 223, or email volunteer@bendhabitat.org.
 
 
Volunteering at the ReStore means having the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, be creative, interact with the public, and get exercise all in one place! Our goal is to help make your volunteer time rewarding by providing you with excellent training, supervision, resources, opportunities, and appreciation.

ReStore Volunteer efforts also aid in helping to sustain our environment and reduce the amount of waste produced. Through teamwork, communication, interaction, and fun, we impact our community by helping to encourage others to Recycle, Reuse & ReStore!
 
 
 
Below are a list of volunteer positions:  Cashier, Intake Assistant, Department Organizer, Home Store Organizer, Customer Service Assistant, Lot 2 Yard Assistant, Driver Assistant; and some additional needs including Deconstruction Crew, Data Entry, Event Planning, Web & Social Media, & Bulletin Board design.  We hope one of these positions will speak to you, but keep in mind we appreciate your special combination of talents and interests and can absolutely tailor a position just for you!
 
Cashier/Register

REQUIREMENTS

·        Provide “WOW” customer service

·        Weekly commitment

·        Must be friendly with good sense of humor

·        At least three months of ReStore experience

·        Ability to clearly explain ReStore policies and procedures

·        Criminal background check

TASKS

·        Greet customers

·        Ring up sales

·        Operate credit card/check machine

·        Help answer customer/donor questions

·        Answer phone at register/take messages as needed

·        Fill out necessary paperwork for  sold items

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        Cashiering/retail experience

·        Basic computer skills

·        Ability to do light/moderate lifting as needed

·        Ability to stay on feet for extended period of time

 
Intake Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

·        Provide “WOW” customer service

·        Weekly commitment

·        Ability to clearly explain ReStore policies and procedures

·        Ability to use good judgment while interacting with donors and customers

TASKS

·        Greet customers/donors

·        Assist donors/customers with loading and unloading merchandise

·        Help answer customer/donor questions

·        Give donation receipt to donor

·        Keep drop-off area/warehouse clean, safe and organized

·        Help test electrical items

·        Sort and clean donated items

·        Help staff in pricing items using “Price Book”

·        Help transfer determined prices to donation receipt copies

·        Help stock shelves with merchandise

·        Help keep aisles clear and safe

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        Curiosity and a love of “stuff”

·        Mechanical/electrical/appliance repair skills/experience

·        Ability to do heavy lifting

Department Organizer

REQUIREMENTS

·        Provide “WOW” customer service (greet customers and be able to help them find items to fit their needs)

·        Ability to create displays that enhance appearance of stock

·        Ability to clearly explain ReStore policies and procedures

TASKS

·        Arrange items on display shelves and in front showroom

·        Keep department clean and organized

·        Cull old/outdated/incomplete stock

·        Work with staff to determine inventory reduction sales

·        Create decorative displays

·        Arrange special promotion displays

·        Organize volunteers for special projects

·        Help keep aisles clear and safe

·        Help answer customer/donor questions

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        A love of “stuff”

·        A desire to see things ‘in they’re place’

·        Understanding of the concept of merchandising

·        Ability to do heavy lifting

 

Home Store Organizer

REQUIREMENTS

·        Provide “WOW” customer service (greet customers and be able to help them find items to fit their needs)

·        Ability to create displays that enhance appearance of stock

·        Ability to clearly explain ReStore policies and procedures

TASKS

·        Arrange furniture displays to create home-like atmosphere

·        Create decorative displays

·        Hang pictures

·        Hang artwork and mirrors

·        Clean/dust/vacuum showroom

·        Arrange special promotion/seasonal displays

·        Organize volunteers for special projects

·        Help keep aisles clear and safe

·        Help answer customer/donor questions

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        An artistic eye

·        A desire to see things ‘in they’re place’

·        Understanding of the concept of merchandising

·        Ability to do heavy lifting

 

Customer Service Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

·        Provide “WOW” customer service

·        A love of people and a sense of humor

·        Ability to stay on feet for an extended period

TASKS

·        Walk around the store and ask customers if they need assistance

·        Utilize walkie-talkies to get answers for customers

·        Communicate with staff about safety issues, areas that need attention

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        Building/building materials knowledge

   

Lot 2 Yard Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

·        Weekly commitment

·        Provide “WOW” customer service

·        Ability to work outdoors for an extended period

·        Ability to stay on feet for an extended period

TASKS

·        Greet customers/donors

·        Assist donors/customers with loading and unloading merchandise

·        Help answer customer/donor questions

·        Give donation receipt to donor

·        Keep yard and receiving area safe and organized

·        Sort and clean donated items

·        Help staff in pricing items using “Price Book”

·        Help transfer determined prices to donation receipt copies

·        Help stock racking with merchandise

·        Help keep yard clear and safe

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        Building/building materials knowledge

·        Ability to do heavy lifting

 

Driver Assistant

REQUIREMENTS

·        Weekly commitment

·        Ability to do heavy lifting

TASKS

·        Assist driver with pick-up of donations.

·        Read maps and help driver navigate.

·        Help driver when backing up the truck or trailer.

HELPFUL SKILLS/ABILITIES (desired but not mandatory)

·        Experience moving large cumbersome items

·        Map reading

 

 

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER NEEDS:

 

Deconstruction Crew

Help remove/salvage useable materials from homes and businesses to be sold at the ReStore.

Event Planning

Help or spearhead special events and sales.

Data Entry

Enter donation receipts and other information into Access database. 

Web and Social Media

Help staff keep website content fresh and interesting.  Help update Craigslist, Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr with new merchandise and sale/event announcements.

Bulletin Board Design

Help keep ReStore Bulletin board fresh and interesting with new Habitat family biographies and community events.  Update chalk board with landfill diversion and Habitat Home counts.
